Vintage Star Wars die cast toys

Releasing both the die cast Series 1 and 2 ships in the UK, Palitoy kept the die cast line running longer than any other foreign licensee. The four Series 1 ships were released on the SW12 card, with the major difference from their Kenner counterparts being the large Palitoy logo on the front and rear of the card. The other main difference was the alternative assortment number on the top left hand corner of the cardfront.

The Darth Vader TIE Fighter was also released on the SW12 - its Kenner counterpart was released on the SW21. The Darth Vader TIE was a slightly later release, as in North America and the re-use of the SW12 may have been a cost saving exercise.

Similarly the Series 2 larger ships were released in SW7 boxes, with the Palitoy logo once again replacing Kenner. The boxes were otherwise identical even including the erroneous 'Empire's largest Space Craft' text on the Millennium Falcon and Y-Wing boxes.

The line was not continued for the release of the Empire Strikes Back ships, with perhaps the lack on interest in the die cast range more apparent in the UK market.
